Fireworks Canton Tower - Asian Games - IBA - New Icon of China

The New Icon of China, called Guangzhou Ta or Canton Tower, is the the world's tallest TV tower. The 610 meter tall Canton Tower was the center-point of festivities during the fireworks at the Opening and Closing Ceremony of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. The sky is the limit for dutch architecs Mark hemel + Barbara Kuit, in China, NOS news 19 November 2010, by Wouter Zwart. Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit and their practice Information Based Architecture from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, won the commission to design the Canton Tower Tower through an international invited competition in 2004. Where in the Netherlands a 600 meter tall tower would be difficult to realize, in China the cultural and economic climate is such, that a complex experimental building like the Guangzhou Tower is seen as a interesting challenge. Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit and their practice Information Based Architecture from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, won the commission to design the Canton Tower Tower through an international invited competition in 2004.
